A young and successful TV Actor relocates to New York City, where he retains a wonderful gothic apartment. With his TV career in limbo, he is offered the chance to play Hamlet on-stage. The problem is, he hates Hamlet and the problem gets worse with the entrance of the ghost of John Barrymore whose portrayal of Hamlet was unsurpassed. Barrymore's ghost arrives drunk and in full costume to the apartment that was once his. The contrast between the two actors leads to a wildly funny duel over women, art, success, duty, and, yes, the apartment.
Synopsis
Act I : Early summer
Act II, Scene one: Opening Night, six weeks later
Act II, Scene two: 7 a.m., the next morning Cast Notes
A. Lynne Bell (Felicia Dantine) Lynne has a degree in Theatre Arts from CSU and graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. Her favorite past roles include: Judy in A Chorus Line, Alex in On the Verge, Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing , Berenice in The Piano Lesson and full-time waitress. She was last seen in the Fine Arts Repertory Theatre Company's production of Little Shop of Horrors as Ronnette. She extends a warm and loving thanks to family and friends near and far for their love, patience, support and, most importantly, their money.
Ricky Villa-Roger (Andrew Rally) After six years of musical theater, Ricky welcomes the challenge of doing a straight play. He was last seen on stage as Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors at the Fine Arts Center. He has a B.A. in theatre from C.U. which, of course, means hes a professional waiter. His hobbies include eating and complaining about his useless degree (usually done simultaneously). He wishes to thank Magda, Marla and Jenn for their continued support.
Jane Fromme (Felicia McDavey) Jane is happy to be returning to the Star Bar Players. Earlier this season she was Clelia in The Nerd. Recent credits include playing Jean Louise in the Smokebrush Theatre production of To Kill A Mockingbird and Martha in Theatreworks Strange Snow. Jane is also proud to have been in the premiere production at the Smokebrush playing Bessie in Marvins Room. For the past several years, she has remained active with the Colorado College Summer Festival where she has performed such roles as Sally in Lips Together Teeth Apart and Sally in Talley's Folly.
Judy McClow Harris (Lillian Troy) Judy McClow Harris has become the Grand Old Lady of Star Bar mainly by outlasting everyone else! Her first role with the company was that of Miss Prism inthe the 1976 production of The Importance of Being Earnest. Other favorite roles were Mary Tyrone in A Long Days Journey Into Night, Mme. St. Pe in Waltz of the Toreadors and the mother in Summer and Smoke. In real life, she is very much involved with her large family - five children, eleven grandchildren, and loyal supporter and almost-new husband Randy Harris, who manages the Star Bar box office.
John Sidney Barrymore (Julian Bucknall) John Barrymore (playing the role of Julian Bucknall) is the youngest of the acting Barrymores and is noted for his romantic good looks (especially the famous profile) and for his riotous living off-stage. His earliest success was as a matinee idol but he also did well as Peter Ibbetson in the dramatic version of Du Maurier's novel and, of course, as Hamlet. In the latter, his was regarded as the finest performance of his generation. Film work includes Romeo and Juliet (as Mercutio), A Bill of Divorcement and Grand Hotel. He appeared with his siblings Lionel and Ethel in only one film: Rasputin and the Empress. He regards this role as particularly challenging, especially since Julian is a software engineer living with his girlfriend Donna in Colorado Springs, and he is neither dead nor an alcoholic (although he does have a penchant for microbrewery beers).
David Hastings (Gary Peter Lefkowitz) David was last seen attempting to seduce women at the end of the world in Early One Evening At The Rainbow Bar Bar and Grille. His other Star Bar credits include Cahoots and Harvey. Locally, he has appeared with Smokebrush Readers Theatre in Kennedys Children and Twain By The Tale and was the narrator for their KCME radio program, A Smokebrush Valentine. Far from hating Hamlet, David was seen with the Virginia Shakespeare Festival Romeo and Juliet and Taming of the Shrew. He received his acting training at Circle in the Square in New York and North Carolina School of the Arts. During ten years of living in New York, David appeared in several Off-Broadway productions, none of which you've ever heard of. He wishes to express his thanks to Star Bar for not requiring him to handle any firearms in this production.
