Star Bar Players

This nonprofit organization is the oldest existing community theatre in the Pikes Peak Region providing a forum for live theatre entertainment. Costs have always been met through ticket sales and contributions.

This is the only organization of its kind in the Pikes Peak Region. It is open to everyone in the community both as participants and as audience observers. It has become known throughout the Region for its production excellence and for the experience it offers to community actors set designers, costumers, directors and technical personnel. Without this availability community people will have little or no opportunity to participate, enjoy and develop their theatre skills.

Organizational Information

Star Bar Players was formed as a repertory company in 1972 by three local actors. The first performances were Shakespeare plays presented in the park for free. Since 1973 the organization has performed in the Grace Episcopal Church parish hall, the Little Theatre of the City Auditorium, the loft of the Manitou Theatre, the Unitarian church and for the past ten years in the Lon Chaney Theatre.

Productions have included those of major playwrights in a variety of styles. They have performed a five-show season every year for the past 22 years. A sixth production was added in 1987 as a "studio production" which allowed directors and actors an opportunity to learn more about their craft without becoming a financial burden to the company.

For the past three years a Summer Stars workshop has been offered to provide the youth of the community with a series of mini-workshops in live theatre culminating in participation in a live production.

Star Bar Players is a nonprofit organization which provides an educational experience in the performing arts to the citizens of the Pikes Peak Region. It is open to everyone the community and offers newcomers to the theatre arts a place to develop their skills.

There is a large local talent pool which has produced performers that have gone into professional work in film and equity theatre companies. The company has been recognized by the Colorado Council on Arts and Humanities with grants in support of their children's programs.
